superheroes and toplessness

My 5-year-old son is very interested in superheroes. Recently his Grandmother went to the library and checked out some books for him, including a Marvel Superhero Encyclopedia. He enjoyed looking at all the detailed drawings and diagrams for each character, but got a strange look on his face when he stumbled across a superhero he'd never heard of before: the She-Hulk.

Paavo: "Dad, when this lady turns into the Hulk, does she grow really big and tall?"

Me: "Yes, just like the guy who turns into the Hulk."

Paavo: "So why doesn't her shirt rip off?"

now THAT's funny. I love it when kids are intuitive enough to "ask things that make you go hmmm..."

Actually . . . ummm . . . this pegs me as a dork, but I'm pretty sure She-Hulk is permanently in that state. I think she's from another planet -- but she's much more intelligent than the hulkified-Hulk, so she's a respected scientist in her field, or something like that . . . I dunno. Pardon me while I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose.

I think the answer is pretty obvious: She-Hulk wears shirts that are made of Lycra-Spandex, while the hulk prefers natural fibers such as cotton that don't stretch. Duh.

Oh Paavo! Nice story, Jonathan! I laughed out loud when I read it.
